Attorney Dia T. Colbert
Attorney Dia T. Colbert was born and raised in New York City. She attained her educational skills and a strong sense of direction through the well-structured education she received through the catholic school system from first grade through graduate school. After graduating from St. Anselm’s Elementary and Cardinal Spellman High schools, she was admitted to the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in General Management in 1985.
Miss Colbert did not take the usual route to become a lawyer. After graduating from Boston College's school of management, she became a paralegal, working with firms in New York and South Florida for more than twenty years. Attorney Colbert always wanted to go to law school and open her own office, but work came first. So, over the course of 18 years, mainly taking courses at night, Attorney Colbert earned an MBA in Management from Barry University’s Andreas School of Business and, finally, her J .D. in 2003, from the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. In 2010, Attorney Colbert became a member of The Florida Bar.
Professionally, Attorney Colbert’s principal areas of practice are condominium association law, contract review and litigation, bankruptcy, probate, collections, and debt settlement. Ms. Colbert regularly contributes her time to volunteer with the Legal Aid Service of Broward County and Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida through the joint pro bono project, Broward Lawyers Care. For her exceptional pro bono service, Attorney Colbert has been recognized by the Florida Bar in 2019 when she received the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for Florida’s 17th Judicial Circuit and in 2021 by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida when she received the Chief Bankruptcy Judge’s Pro Bono Award.
During her legal career, Attorney Colbert has appeared as a guest speaker for elementary, middle, high schools, and undergraduate students to discuss with them the importance of education, possible career goals, as well as ethical responsibility. Miss Colbert also mentors high school and college students.
Attorney Colbert is a member of the Florida Bar, American Bar Association, Broward County Bar Association, and is listed in various Who’s Who Publications including Marquis Who's Who Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World. She is also admitted to practice in the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida.
